    The Cyprus Radio Coastal Station has the responsibility for the continuous surveillance and management of distress and urgency signals, which are transmitted through the international maritime frequency from ships which face emergency situations as well as for the publication of safety signals which contain instructions/navigational warnings to mariners (NAVTEX) to ensure a safe navigation within the Search and Rescue Region of the Republic of Cyprus. Additionally, the Cyprus Radio, through transmissions, circulates meteorological bulletins and weather forecasts, offers medical assistance (MEDICO) to the mariners through medical advice from governmental Doctors when necessary, and finally provides telecommunication facilities from ships and mariners to the Land and vice versa through the Telephone Service Number 156.
