From 03 to 07 March 2023, the JRCC Larnaca participated in a conference of the COSPAS-SARSAT organization in Doha, Qatar, which was organized by the JRCC Doha and the Doha Mission Control Center (MCC). The main objective of the conference was to analyze the general spectrum of operation and organization of the COSPAS-SARSAT network, with particular emphasis on the management of alarms sent to Search and Rescue Centers worldwide.

The JRCC Larnaca is harmonized with every new development and modification that occurs in the organized global SAR network, as well as in the COSPAS-SARSAT satellite network, especially after the introduction of the 2nd generation distress radio beacons and radio beacon devices, which have a system for recording the position of civilian aircrafts’ ELT (DT), which will be mandatory from 2025 following a relevant directive of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

70 countries participate in the COSPAS-SARSAT program including the Republic of Cyprus, which participates since 2006. The Republic of Cyprus has one of the 35 Mission Control Centers of the system worldwide, which operates under the administration of the JRCC Larnaca, as well as 1 of the 4 ground satellite stations of the European Union SAR/Galileo network.
