A joint Search and Rescue (SAR) Daylight Exercise, titled “CYPΙΤΑ - 01/18” was conducted on Monday, 08th of January 2018, in the south coast of Cyprus, with the participation of SAR Units and Personnel of the Republic of Cyprus and the Figate “ESPERO” and her organic helicopter of the Italian Navy.
The exercise is conducted within the framework of cooperation development, aiming the successful confrontation of Search and Rescue incidents or emergency situations that might arise during operations within the Exclusive Economic Zone and the Search and Rescue Region of the Republic of Cyprus.
The Italian and the SAR Helicopters of the Republic of Cyprus took part in the Aeronautical SAR Exercise under the operational control and full coordination of the Joint Rescue Coordination Center (JRCC) Larnaca.
The scenario dealt with a simulated “Maritime Accident at Open Sea”. Hence, the JRCC Larnaca immediately implemented the Cyprus National SAR Plan “NEARCHOS” in order to confront the situation, executing air medical evacuation operation from the Italian Frigate by mobilizing SAR Helicopters of the Cyprus Police Aviation Unit, with registered nurses of the Larnaca Civil Defense on board.
