Συμβούλιο Οικονομίας και Ανταγωνιστικότητας Κύπρου

The inauguration ceremony of the new premises of the Joint Rescue Coordination Center of the Republic of Cyprus was held, today in Larnaca.

The ceremony was conducted by the Ministers of Defence, Mr. Charalambos Petrides, and Transport, Communications and Works, Mr. Yiannis Karousos in the presence of Governmental officials and representatives of the agencies involved in the Search and Rescue System, which also had the opportunity to tour the new facilities.

The construction of the new premises, which was undertaken by Cyta, began in February 2020 and was concluded in June of the same year. Since then, the Center operates from its new premises.

The co-location of all of the Center’s Departments, and more specifically the Search and Rescue Operations Center, the Satellite Mission Control Center, the “CYPRUS RADIO” Coastal Station and the “ZENON” Coordination Center, benefits the Center’s operation by maximizing its capabilities and improving the provided services, while it also drastically reduces the running cost.

The overall cost of the project was funded by 70% by European Funds, managed by the European Funds Unit of the Ministry of the Interior and more specifically the Internal Security Fund – External Border and Visa.
