On September 29, 2023, at 18:00, JRCC Larnaca received a radio distress call for people in danger, after a boat sailing in the Mari sea area capsized due to the adverse weather conditions prevailing in the area.
JRCC Larnaca proceeded with the implementation of the National Plan "NEARCHOS" by mobilizing a high-speed boat of the Port & Maritime Police, a high-speed boat of the Underwater Demolition Team of the Cyprus Navy and a helicopter of the Cyprus Police Aviation Unit, with a specialized nurse of the Ambulance Service.
Rescue Assets located the incident location and rescued all 8 crew members from the water.
All the rescued were transported by helicopter and speed boats to the Evangelos Florakis Naval Base in Mari, where they were received by an ambulance of the Ambulance Service.
