On July 12, 2019 at 17:30, the JRCC Larnaca received information regarding the fall and injury of a young person (19 year old Irish tourist) at Sea Caves in the area of Cavo Greco.
JRCC mobilized rescue forces which due to the adverse weather conditions and the high waves prevailing in the area were not able to operate both by sea and air.
Therefore, a specialιsed team of the Fire Brigade’s Catastrophy Response Special Unit was called from the Kofinou station, which was able to recover the young man and handed him over to an ambulance of the State Health Service Organization Ambulance Service, which, after providing him with pre-hospital care, transferred him to the General Paralimni Hospital.
On the occasion of this incident, JRCC Larnaca wishes to remind the public that, according to a recent decision of the competent state services, the approach and dives at the "caves" in Cavo Greco is strictly forbidden, since according to an inspection made by the Department of Geological Survey the area has been considered dangerous due to increased erosion.
