On Thursday, 02 February 2023, a joint Search and Rescue exercise between Cyprus and France called "CYFRA 01/23" was conducted within the Search and Rescue Region of the Republic of Cyprus. The exercise is under the framework of the defense cooperation program between the two countries and was conducted in a sea area within the Search and Rescue Region of the Republic of Cyprus under the coordination of the Joint Rescue Coordination Center. In the exercise participated the French Frigate “ALSACE” with its organic NH-90 Helicopter, the Patrol Boat “ODYSSEAS” of the Port and Marine Police, two AW-139 helicopters from Cyprus Police Aviation Unit, and the 460 SAR Squadron of the Airforce Command of the National Guard General Staff as well as a “MEDEVAC” Specialized Team of the Ambulance Service of the State Health Services Organization. The main goal of the exercise was to further improve the long-lasting cooperation in SAR matters between the RoC and the French Republic’s aeronautical forces as well as to train the SAR assets’ crews on the operational procedures followed during rescue operations of people in distress. SAREX «CYFRA 01/23» constitutes the 1st collaboration within 2023 and essentially is a continuation of the regular joint training that takes place between Cyprus and France in Search and Rescue matters.
