On 07 December 2023 at 07:20, JRCC LARNACA activated National SAR Plan ‘NEARCHOS’ to deal with medical evacuation of a 57 year male, crew member of the Maltese flagged cargo vessel "MGD JOY".
The vessel was sailing at a distance of 110NM South-West Cyprus, within the SAR area of responsibility of the Republic of Cyprus (Nicosia FIR) and a helicopter from 460 SAR Squadron of the National Guard was scrambled to perform the evacuation operation with a specialized paramedic of the Ambulance Services on board.
The person was safely delivered at 10:15 to Paphos General Hospital for further medical treatment.
