On Tuesday, 2nd of February 2021, the Commander of British Forces in Cyprus, Major General Rob Thomson, undertook an informative visit to the JRCC during which the Commander and Staff of the Center analyzed the organization and operation of the Search and Rescue System of the Republic. During the visit, a discussion was held focusing on the further improvement of the existing cooperation between JRCC and the British Forces in Cyprus, especially with the 84th SAR Squadron of the Royal Air Force based at RAF Akrotiri, not only during exercises but more importantly in SAR operations. Also, the role of “ZENON” Coordination Center in humanitarian operations within the Eastern Mediterranean region, such as non-combatant evacuation operations from crisis areas, was outlined.
The British General, acknowledged the efficiency, the well organization and the readiness of the Center to respond to SAR cases and highlighted his intention for constant enhancement of the existing cooperation.
