On August 31ST 2023, at 11:20, the JRCC LARNACA received a report referring to a missing person, crew member of the Liberian-flagged merchant vessel "CONTSHIP OAK", which was sailing in a northwestern sea area of the Search and Rescue Region of the Republic of Cyprus (FIR Nicosia).
The JRCC LARNACA, immediately activated the National SAR Plan "NEARCHOS", implementing all the appropriate procedures derive from the relevant international SAR manuals, regulations and internal Standard Operating Procedures and tasks the mother ship M/V "CONTSHIP OAK", as well as other vessels sailing in the vicinity, to carry out searching ops to locate the missing person.
After 72 hours on intensive search operations by 31 vessels covering an area of 3600 NM², on Sunday 03 Sep 2023, the operation was suspended without any findings related to the missing person.
Both, the owner company and the flag state of the merchant ship "CONTSHIP OAK", were informed about the incident.
