On Tuesday, 2nd of February 2021, an international joint SAR exercise, titled “CYPFRA 01/21”, was conducted in a sea area South of Cyprus and within the Search and Rescue Region of the Republic of Cyprus (RoC). In the exercise participated the French Frigate “ACONIT”, one AW-139 helicopter of the 460 SAR Squadron of the Air Force Command of the National Guard General Staff, one AW-139 helicopter of the Cyprus Police Aviation Unit, as well as nurses of the “MEDEVAC” Specialized Team of the Ambulance Service of the State Health Services Organization.
The exercise, the coordination of which was under the JRCC, was conducted within the framework of cooperation development, aiming the successful confrontation of Search and Rescue incidents and emergency situations that might occur within the Search and Rescue Region of the RoC.
SAREX «CYFRA 01/21» is the first exercise for 2021. An overall of 39 exercises have been conducted during the long-lasting cooperation in SAR matters between the RoC and the French Republic’s aeronautical forces operating in the Eastern Mediterranean.
