On Tuesday, August 27th, 2024, Rear Admiral Michele Orini, the Italian Commander of the Operation “Mediterranean Sicuro” and Commander of the Italian 3rd Naval Division, paid an official visit at JRCC Larnaca.

During his visit, the Commander and staff of the JRCC briefed Admiral on the organization and the operational capabilities of the Search and Rescue System of the Republic of Cyprus, and also on the role of the Center in humanitarian operations in the wider Eastern Mediterranean region.

Additionally, the Admiral and the JRCC Commander discussed common actions to improve the existing cooperation in SAR-related matters, while experiences and views related to the increased migration flows in the Mediterranean Sea towards Europe, were exchanged.
