From May 29 to June 08, 2023, the JRCC, representing the Republic of Cyprus, participated in the 37th Meeting of the Joint Committee of the International Organization for the Provision of Search and Rescue Satellite Information, COSPAS-SARSAT, which was held in Montreal, Canada.
The main mission of the COSPAS-SARSAT organization is to receive satellite data from aircraft/vessels/persons in distress and distribute it to Search and Rescue agencies to render immediate assistance to rescue persons in distress. 45 States and international organizations such as the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), the International Maritime Organization (IMO), and the European Space Agency (ESA) are participating in the program.
The Republic of Cyprus has been actively involved in the program since 2006 as a simple user, and since 2020, one of the 30 Mission Control Centers worldwide has been established and is operating under the JRCC’s command.
